MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Construction on Marquette’s new municipal building began at the beginning of this summer and they are hoping to have it finished by the end of next June.

Groundbreaking was held on Friday for the new Marquette Municipal Service Center. Gundlach Champion is utilizing as much Upper Peninsula talent as possible. 75% of the work will be performed by local contractors and employees. The new facility is scheduled to be complete by Fall 2017.

Gundlach Champion welcomed two new summer interns this year, Tom Wahlstrom of NMU's Construction Management Program and Jake Pieti of MTU's Civil Engineering Program.

MARQUETTE - The Marquette City Commission on Tuesday approved the guaranteed maximum price for construction of the new Municipal Service Center and officially accepted additional property from the federal government for that site.

MUNISING — In four months from now, things will be looking a whole lot different at the Alger County Jail. Officials with the jail held a ceremonial groundbreaking today to signify upgrades that are coming to the jail.
