Gundlach Champion was awarded this project by Arcadis U.S., Inc. in May 2011 to provide upgrades to the Canadian National Railroad fuel station in Urbana, IL. GCI teamed up and managed a mechanical/pipefitting contractor and an electrical contractor to complete the project. The work consisted of replacing existing underground diesel fuel and lubricating oil pipe lines with aboveground pipe lines. Gundlach Champion installed numerous steel pipe supports to complete the 350‐ft long above‐ground piping system, which included an 85‐ft long pipe bridge spanning four railroad tracks. The diesel fuel is dispensed from an existing 300,000‐gallon fuel storage tank to train engines. This project was performed during the second half of 2011.
