Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber, Inc. (FTCH) Recognized for Marquette Municipal Service Center Project
Grand Rapids, MI – On March 10, FTCH was presented the Engineering Merit Award for work on the $16.5 million Marquette Municipal Service Center at this year’s American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/M) Excellence Awards ceremony at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.
Gundlach Champion wins Build Michigan Award
IRON MOUNTAIN, MI – Gundlach Champion, Inc. (GCI) is pleased to announce that it was awarded the 2017 Build Michigan Award in the Design-Build category for construction of the Marquette Municipal Service Center by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Michigan.
GCI Awarded AGC of Michigan Outstanding Safety Award
Companies receive safety awards from the Associated General Contractors based on the size of the company’s work force and their safe job performance for the reporting year.
AGC Build Michigan Award
The award is based on several criteria including Project Challenges, Excellence in Project Management, client needs, innovation in construction techniques, and exceptional service in safety, employee relations, and scheduling. Gundlach Champion was the winner in the Federal/Heavy Construction division.
AGC Cornerstone Award 2014
Gundlach Champion received the Michigan Cornerstone Award for Excellence in Construction Training. The award is based on a number of criteria including field craft journeyman to apprentice work hour ratio, management involvement in apprenticeship training trust funds and committees, in-house employee training and community involvement with regards to promoting construction careers and educational programs.

Michigan Construction Hall of Fame
The Michigan Construction Hall of Fame at Ferris State University held a ceremony in the Granger Center for Construction and HVACR on the university’s Big Rapids campus. William Verrette was one of five chosen to be inducted into the Michigan Construction Hall of Fame.
AGC Safety Awards
Companies receive safety awards from the Associated General Contractors based on the size of the company’s work force and their safe job performance for the reporting year. Gundlach Champion is proud to have been awarded National AGC Safety Excellence Awards for no lost time incidents. We also received AGC Michigan Safety Honor Roll Awards. Gundlach Champion receives AGC 2012 Build Michigan Award for Hampton Inn Marquette, MI Build Michigan Award in the category of Projects 10 million or less.
AGC Cornerstone Award 2012
Gundlach Champion was presented the statewide 2012 AGC Cornerstone Award for Construction Training Excellence at the AGC of Michigan’s annual meeting in Bay City, Michigan.

Gundlach Champion, Inc. was presented with the CAM Magazine Outstanding Construction Project of the Year 2011 for the Hillside Place Apartments, Michigan Technological University located in Houghton, MI.
AGC Cornerstone Award 2010
Gundlach Champion was presented the statewide 2010 AGC Cornerstone Award for Construction Training Excellence at the AGC of Michigan’s annual meeting in Bay City, Michigan held January 28, 2011. AGC Build America and Build Michigan Awards
On March 17, 2005, the Association of General Contractors of America (AGC) presented Gundlach Champion, Inc. the 2005 Build America Award for the St. Mary & St. Joseph Parish Rebuild project (Iron Mountain, MI) at the AGC’s 86th Annual Convention Awards Dinner, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Steel Systems Excellence Award
Gundlach Champion provided construction services for the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts at Michigan Technological University. This facility was honored with the 2002 Steel Systems Excellence Award in the medium-sized building category during the annual meeting of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers.
AGC Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Award
Gundlach Champion, Inc. was the proud recipient of the 2001 Association of General Contractors (AGC) Marvin Black Excellence in Partnering Award. The merits of the award are teambuilding, improved communication, conflict resolution and delivery of quality to the job site.
AIA Detroit Honor Award
Gundlach Champion provided construction services for this complex project which received the 1999 American Institute of Architects Detroit Honor Award.
American Society for Interior Designers Bronze Award
This very beautiful facility received a Bronze Award in the Category of Recreation/Hospitality from the Wisconsin Chapter of American Society of Interior Designers.
29th Annual WRMCA Concrete Design Award
This award is given to companies that honor excellence in the use of Ready-Mixed Concrete in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Gundlach Champion received this award for the ICF Category.
2006 AGC Summer Work Program Award
This honor was awarded to Gundlach Champion for providing guidance and experience to students who are preparing to practice in this industry.
28th Annual Concrete Design Award
In March 2007 American Concrete International (ACI) presented Gundlach Champion, Inc. the 2006 Concrete Design Award for the new Gundlach Champion Building & Parking Lot (Iron Mountain, MI). This was presented by ACI in conjunction with the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association.
Michigan Construction Hall of Fame
Born and raised in Houghton, Herman Gundlach Jr. often worked at Gundlach Inc., the construction company founded by his father in 1898. After a successful football career at Houghton High School, Worcester Academy and Harvard University and a stint in the armed services, including service in World War II, Herman returned to the Upper Peninsula to take over the family business.
