This project involved temporary steel shoring, demolition of existing steel structures, new steel erection, grounding of base plates, and concrete saw cutting. Gundlach Champion provided all labor, materials, and equipment required for the modifications.

Sand Shuttle 5N Modifications included installing temporary shoring around the tower that supported the electrical room, 5N shuttle, and the ends of three conveyors. Once the shoring was installed, we demolished the existing shuttle truss, the incline conveyor, the support tower, and the electrical room on the tower. A new tower was constructed with a platform on top. It also supported two conveyors and the new electrical room. New access catwalks connect the conveyors to the platform level of the tower.

Chip Shuttle 6N Modifications included the demolition and replacement of all three of its support structures. We also replaced most of the shuttle’s catwalk grating. Each end structure required saw cutting and removal of a 75,000 lb. piece of the concrete foundation. Two cranes were necessary to safely get the concrete to the ground.
